I ran into an old co-worker the other day in the grocery store. I told her about TribeBoost and got an unexpected response back.
What is a tribe?
I always assumed that most people would understand what TribeBoost stood for and understand what our name conveys.
Maybe sometimes it is best to explain in detail what you are all about?
So let’s investigate what TRIBE means today.
The Beginning of the Tribe Movement
The term tribe of course goes back a long ways in history. But recently the term has been reborn after the publishing of an excellent book by Seth Godin.
The book is Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us.
Here is a vital quote from the book about tribes:
Human beings can’t help it: We need to belong. One of the most powerful of our survival mechanisms is to be part of a tribe, to contribute to (and take from) a group of like-minded people.
The book is a call to action for future leaders to show their tribes the way and together make progress.
Another important item recently is the Kevin Kelly expose “1,000 True Fans.”
Kevin suggests that anyone with 1,000 true fans can make a living. No matter how crazy or out of the mainstream you are.
That was a thrilling concept with me when I heard that for the first time. Even something as small and random as pinball machine collectors (of which I am one) has a tribe of at least 1,000 frenzied fans.
You can follow your passion and your calling — while achieving success at the same time. As long as you can grow and develop your tribe, of course.
Out of this spirit and inspiration, I started TribeBoost over two years ago.
Below are some amazing talks related to tribes and why they are important.
